Thanks to individual donations totalling 110 €, and the contribution of Basetis, which has decided to multiply this figure by 5 (550 €), we will make a final donation of 660 € to this year’s cause of La Marató de TV3: research against cancer! In this way, we will be doing our bit to collaborate in this research that is very close to our hearts.

 

Why La Marató de TV3?

Personally, I decided to share the initiative with Basetis because I find the awareness-raising, citizen mobilisation and dissemination work done by the TV3 Marathon Foundation very positive for society. Year after year, a large amount of money is raised from small contributions from all over the country. This year, for example, the amount raised was €10,715,430, and this is a provisional figure, because there is still time to make donations until 31 March. So if anyone has missed it and wants to do so, there is still time!

 

2018 Edition – Cancer

As explained on the website of La Marató, in the section on the disease, thanks to biomedical research, cancer survival in Catalonia has grown by 7% in the last 10 years and the average currently stands at 55%. But despite the advances made in treatments, diagnostic methods and prevention, the incidence of cancer is still very high:

 

1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will get cancer in their lifetime.

 

Furthermore, cancer is the leading cause of death in Catalonia among men and the second cause of death among women. Every day 28 people die of cancer, that is, more than 10,000 a year.
