1.200 € for the Foundation
I recently made a personal donation to the Alzheimer Catalunya Foundation to help patients and their families.
Basetis supported this initiative and proposed to all employees to make their contributions. At the end of the period that was set, the amount of personal donations amounted to 200 € and then, Basetis, following its policy of social commitment, decided to multiply by five the contribution obtaining a total of 1,200 €.
What is the reason for my donation?
Following the family’s intention to make three donations a year, we have decided that helping patients and relatives of Alzheimer’s patients is an opportunity… who knows if we will ever have to face this disease closely.
What is Alzheimer’s disease?
Alzheimer’s is the most common type of dementia in the population. There are more than 100 types of dementia. The disease is named after the German psychiatrist and neurologist Alois Alzheimer, who first described it in 1906. In general, Alzheimer’s disease is diagnosed in people over 65 years of age, although there are cases of early onset, which, although less prevalent, can occur much earlier.
Worldwide, according to the WHO, almost 10 million new cases are diagnosed each year. Almost 1 case every 4 seconds, of which between 60 and 70% are Alzheimer’s disease. In Spain there are more than 800,000 people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and in 2050 it could reach 1.5 million. In Catalonia there are more than 86,000 cases. It is estimated that there are currently more than 47 million people affected and that in 2050 there will be more than 115 million people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, 19 million of them in Europe.
The call: You can help too
